چکیده

Over much of the world s surface oceans, nitrate and phosphate concentrations are below the limit of detection (LOD) of conventional techniques of analysis. However, these nutrients play a controlling role in primary productivity and carbon sequestration in these waters. In recent years, techniques have been developed to address this challenge, and methods are now available for the shipboard analysis of nanomolar (nM) nitrate and phosphate concentrations with a high sample throughput. This article provides an overview of the methods for nM nitrate and phosphate analysis in seawater. We outline in detail a system comprising liquid waveguide capillary cells connected to a conventional segmented-flow autoanalyser and using miniaturised spectrophotometers. This approach is suitable for routine field measurements of nitrate and phosphate and achieves LODs of 0.8 nM phosphate and 1.5 nM nitrate. a 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Underway monitoring of nanomolar nitrate plus nitrite and phosphate in oligotrophic seawater

To study nutrient dynamics and cycling in oligotrophic open ocean environments, continuous measurements of nanomolar nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate are valuable. However, such studies are usually impeded by the detection limits of conventional nutrient-sensors and analyzers. Here, we developed a shipboard deployable underway system for simultaneously monitoring nitrate plus nitrite and phospha...

Capability of Chlorella vulgaris to remove nitrate and phosphate at different concentrations and condition: studied by response surface methodology

In order to study the capability of microalgea Chlorella vulgaris in removal of nitrate and phosphate from water, the effects of initial concentration of nitrate and phosphate and photoperiod were investigated in 20 experiments proposed by response surface methodology. The most effective factors in nitrate removal include initial nitrate concentration, photoperiod and interaction of phosphate-p...

High Resolution Determination of Nanomolar Concentrations of Dissolved Reactive Phosphate in Ocean Surface Waters Using Long Path Liquid Waveguide Capillary Cells (LWCC) and Spectrometric Detection

In the last decade, long path length, low volume, liquid waveguide capillary cells (LWCC) in conjunction with conventional nutrient auto-analyzers have been applied to determinations of nanomolar levels of phosphate, nitrate, and nitrite in oligotrophic waters. This article reports a high resolution, real-time, continuous method for nanomolar dissolved reactive phosphate measurements in ocean s...

Variations in Nitrate and Phosphate Contents of Waters in the Southwest Caspian Sea

Science and technological developments provide new opportunities to exploit aquatic resource. Hence, it is important to understand biotic and abiotic conditions of aquatic ecosystems. Objective of this Paper is to report findings of the study of nitrate and phosphate contents of water and effects of other physicalchemical parameters in the southwest regions of the Caspian Sea in the spring and ...

Intercomparison and coupling of magnesium-induced co-precipitation and long-path liquid-waveguide capillary cell techniques for trace analysis of phosphate in seawater.

Currently, two common techniques for nanomolar-level phosphate measurements in seawater are magnesium-induced co-precipitation (MAGIC) and long-path liquid-waveguide capillary cell (LWCC) spectrophotometry. These techniques have been applied in the open ocean, and our understanding of phosphate distributions in oligotrophic subtropical gyres is based on those data. However, intercomparison of t...
